Geneva Houses for Sale
Community Information

After Daniel Shaw Haight became the first settler of Geneva in the 1830s, other settlers soon followed. Early names considered for the town were Herrington's Ford and La Fox. Eventually, the name “Geneva” was suggested by a doctor who had recently visited upstate New York. Geneva was incorporated as a city in 1887 and today is “well known in the region as a quaint, charming, historic town.” Geneva retains many of its 19th-century homes, including those built in the Italianate, Queen Anne and Greek Revival styles.

Residents of Geneva enjoy festivals and celebrations throughout the year. In the summer, Geneva’s Swedish roots (a number of Swedish immigrants came to the area from 1880 to 1890) are celebrated with Midsommar Festival – Swedish Days. During the Geneva Arts Fair, nearly 120 artists from around the country come to Geneva to celebrate the fine arts. Another unique event, the Christmas Walk and House Tour, has become a holiday tradition for families throughout Chicagoland.

There is a never-ending slew of activities in Geneva to fit every taste. Shopaholics can visit the Kane County Market or meander through Geneva’s historic downtown. Adventure-seekers can golf, kayak, bike, canoe, cross-country ski or ride horses. If you’re just looking for a bit of relaxation in a picturesque setting, River Park and Fabyan Forest Preserve both offer pristine scenery.

All in all, the quaint, historic community of Geneva, offer residents hometown atmospheres as well as the convenience of the great city of Chicago.
